On Wednesday, the 26, I participated in a phone bank for HRC, Human Rights Campaign, to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) bill within the military. Out of the two hours and around 200 constituents I called, I had only one send an e-mail to Senator Nelson to repeal the bill. Nonetheless, it was a great experience hearing how some individuals are still much closeted about their sexuality. This was implied a lot by people who refused to talk about gays and lesbians in the military at the given time of the phone call. It goes to show much work needs to be done within the United States so that the queer community can be open and comfortable about their sexual preference. On Thursday, the 27, I volunteered at Hamburger Mary’s for an event dealing with DADT. At this event I helped with tabling to have people thank Senator Nelson for his contribution, or vote, to repeal DADT because it passed in the Senate, 12-16. I got to hear some military veterans speak about their experience as being homosexual in the military, and living in secrecy for most of their careers.
I am planning on tabling on Campus, and Publix, also maybe at a dog park. I also want to adopt a dog, and have others be able to adopt cats, dogs, and rabbits.
I a doing the same as Alla. I am tabling at Publix and also on campus. I would love to adopt an animal, but I just adopted a dog so I'm not sure if I will be able to take another one.
